Dimensions: 19" x 13.5" x 2.5". Clementine Hunter depicts the horse drawn wagon hauling cotton from the fields to the gin as it was done for hundreds of years before tractors were used. Clementine Hunter lived and worked on Melrose Plantation, one of the largest cotton farms in Louisiana. Each ceramic is hand-painterd and no two are exactly alike. Each piece has its own distinctive shape whose textured surface allows you to feel the passion in her work. With each piece purchased, a percentage of the proceeds goes back to Clementine Hunter's estate to further promote Clementine Hunter.

    Wash day was usually on Mondays. The work involved hand scrubbing the dirty items, then boiling the clothes outdoors in big black pots, and hanging the clothes on the line to dry. Clementine Hunter did this many times during her years of working at Melrose Plantation. Her art is a visual history of the singular events of plantation life. A self-taught contemporary American artist, she gained international acclaim with a career of painting starting in her 50's and ending with her death in 1988 at the age of 101. Her works can be seen in the Smithsonian Institution, The American Folk Art Museum, and many other museums and private collections around the world.
